"THE BOTANY OF BEAUTY"

Greenhill Galleries is pleased to present the bold and breathtaking floral works of Melbourne-based artist, Christine Johnson.

With an artistic career spanning more than three decades, an impressive list of exhibitions and awards under her belt and a loyal following in Sydney and Melbourne, Greenhill Galleries is to host Johnson’s debut solo exhibition in Western Australia.

"The Botany of Beauty" is the first of a new series of paintings by this remarkable artist in which Johnson transports the viewer into the intimate space of the artist’s garden.

Capturing luminous imagery of both exotic and native flora, Johnson’s oil paintings beautifully imagine the details of the floral landscape while almost dissolving into abstraction. Her unique visual language instils a sense of visual vigour that is tinged with delicacy, thereby portraying the dynamics of nature.

Johnson’s paintings not only celebrate the unique and exquisite forms of Australia’s native flowers, but also take the viewer far beyond mere botanical scrutiny into the poetics of colour and light that form the hallmark of her artistic style.

Born in Melbourne, Johnson studied Fine Art at the Caulfield Institute of Technology (now Monash University) and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
