An unequivocal highlight on the West Australian exhibition calendar this year is a showcase of new paintings by celebrated West Australian artist, Robert Juniper. Presented by Greenhill Galleries, this is a significant exhibition in the life of this eminent artist, who is poised to celebrate the launch of a new book featuring works and memories from his early career, through to the present day.

Juniper is a prolific painter, sculptor and printmaker, best known for his evocative depictions of the West Australian landscape. He has an affinity with the land, and as a boy spent much time in the country, whilst his father worked on the C.Y. O’Connor pipeline in Western Australia. As an adult, he has travelled extensively through many remote areas of Australia, especially Arnhem land, often viewing the topography from light aircraft, hence the aerial aspect in some of his works. Juniper continually revises his artistic approach, and has recently been creating works that juxtapose the use of flat non-reflective paint surfaces with gold and silver leaf and glistening mineral sands.

Recognised as a 'State Living Treasure' and one of Australia's leading artists, Robert Juniper’s works can be found in all major Australian public collections. He is also represented in collections in Europe, USA, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and New Caledonia.

Synopsis of the book, Robert Juniper by Gavin Fry: During a career spanning almost six decades, Juniper has established himself as one of the most original and lyrical interpreters of the Australian landscape, especially that of Western Australia which has been his main inspiration. Winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious Wynne Prize twice, Juniper’s paintings and sculpture are to be found in all major public and private collections. This is the most comprehensive study of his work to date, with more than 150 colour plates and more than 30 photographs. Gavin Fry's text follows the fascinating life of this artist and explores how Juniper’s work has developed to the point where he is acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading artists.
