"Lost Highway"

Greenhill Galleries is pleased to announce an exhibition of fresh works by the exciting Sydney based artist, Jasper Knight, who has emerged over the last few years as a uniquely talented and highly collectable artist.

With subject matter focussing on a series of unfinished and disused freeways and highways, Knight combines his distinctive mix of building materials such as Perspex, masonite and plywood, with exhilarating flashes of bright primary enamels. These new works, a melange of paintings, works on paper and collage, juxtapose colours and surfaces in a variety of formations. The resulting works have an energy and simplicity.

Knight’s palette is mostly confined to three primary colours and variations on those colours; red, blue and yellow (combined with blocks of black). These bold works almost appear to leap off the canvas, having a feeling of extension and an unwillingness to be confined by the frame in which they are housed.

To gain a greater understanding Jasper’s work, the viewer should oscillate between the abstract and the figurative, the constructed object and the painterly surface, and the use of colour to describe and erase.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007 Jasper's work was a finalist in the Archibald Prize. He was also exhibited in the Wynne Prize in 2005 and 2006 and in 2008 he was awarded the prestigious Mosman Art Prize. Jasper Knight has held successful exhibitions throughout Australia and a sell-out show in London last year, as well as exhibiting in Berlin and Beijing. He is represented in corporate and private collections throughout Australia and internationally.
